A Grand Day In: Launching Our New Training Hub
On 30th January 2026, something very special happened for us at Care With Kindness. After months of planning, preparation and more than a little excitement, we officially opened the doors to our brand-new training facility at the Devon Business & Education Centre in Tale.
Unpaid carers, care professionals and local businesses joined us for an afternoon that marked the beginning of a new chapter for care training in rural Devon. There was plenty of conversation, connection and shared enthusiasm, alongside a clear sense that this new space is going to make a real difference.
Why this opening mattered
When Care With Kindness founders, Chris and Mary Lorimer, recognised the lack of availability for care training, they founded a sister company to serve the training needs of their local community. Care Training Devon was formed from a simple belief: everyone can care, they just need the right support.
Too often, family carers, unpaid carers and even professionals are expected to “just know” how to care safely for elderly or vulnerable adults. Caring can be incredibly rewarding but it can also feel overwhelming without practical guidance and reassurance. That’s why opening a dedicated, hands-on training facility here in Devon is so important. This isn’t a cold, faceless, one-size-fits-all classroom. It is a welcoming, local space where people can ask questions, practice real-world skills and build confidence at their own pace.
An afternoon of learning, connection and celebration
Guests arrived amid the rain, warmly welcomed with a light lunch and plenty of time to chat and network. Many of those attending shared their own caring experiences of looking after parents, partners, clients… which reinforced exactly why accessible, practical training is so needed.
In small groups, we enjoyed a live training demonstration and guided tour of the facility. This gave everyone the opportunity to see how our sessions work in practice, from manual handling and mobility support to everyday care skills. Being able to use real equipment in a calm, supportive environment is at the heart of what we do. It was wonderful to see people engaging, asking questions and trying things out.
Official opening with special guest
Our Director, Chris Lorimer, shared the history of Care With Kindness and talked about the vision behind Care Training Devon: to ensure that anyone with the responsibility to care has access to practical training in a supportive, local environment.
We were then honoured to hear from Richard Foord MP, Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for Honiton and Sidmouth, who joined us to mark the occasion. Richard spoke about the growing importance of community-based care, particularly in rural areas, and the pressures faced by carers across the country. His support for initiatives like Care Training Devon reflects a wider recognition that strengthening skills at a local level has a positive impact far beyond individual households.
Following his speech, Richard, helped by some of our lovely staff members, cut the ribbon and officially declared the training facility open.
What makes Care Training Devon different
Our training is personal, practical and accessible, whether you are a family member caring for a loved one at home, an unpaid carer looking for reassurance, or a professional wanting to refresh or build new skills.
Our sessions are delivered in small groups, with plenty of time for discussion and hands-on practice. You do not need a professional background - if you have the heart to care, we can help you build the skills.
Popular sessions include:
● Manual handling and safe moving techniques
● Everyday care skills such as washing, dressing and feeding
● First aid awareness and emergency response
● Dementia awareness
● Specialist workshops including hoist and mobility support
We also work closely with care providers, Personal Assistants, NHS teams and other health partners to ensure training meets real-world needs.
Looking ahead
Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate this milestone and to those who continue to support our work. We are excited about what lies ahead and look forward to welcoming many more of you through our doors. If you would like to find out more about our courses or discuss your training needs, please get in touch. We would love to hear from you.
